The GOLD & The SHADOW

There’s a golden self and a shadow self within each of us. The golden self is our light, our potential, our highest expression -who we strive to be. The shadow holds the truths we often avoid, the lessons hidden in discomfort. Growth isn’t about denying the shadow; it’s about embracing it, understanding it, and allowing it to refine the gold. Wholeness is found not in perfection, but in the balance of both.

The GOLD &
THE SHADOW

This piece is a reflection of my own journey—an acknowledgment of the parts of myself I once oppressed, resisted and hid from. The shadow represents my childhood insecurities and lack of self love and acceptance. At the age of 43 I spent a year to confront and accept it.

My golden self isnot a perfect version of me, but a version shaped by acceptance, awareness, and the willingness to grow. This painting is a reminder that who we become is not in spite of our shadows, but because we choose to accept and learn from them.
